46 LIVE is set to bring THON to viewers around the world from Feb. 15-17. Jerome Taylor welcomes executive producer Meghan Shiels and host Zach Kaplan to discuss the live webcast.
Penn State COMMversations is a podcast produced by the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. Episode topics range from the people, programs and events that shape the Bellisario College to discussing key aspects of life in the professional world for young and upcoming communications alumni.

46 LIVE ready to produce THON webcast

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Each year, thousands of people converge on the Bryce Jordan Center to participate in the Penn State Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. THON families and children, students, alumni and more come together in the fight to end childhood cancer.
But, there also are people all over the world who can’t make it to the Jordan Center, so 46 LIVE, a student-run organization, will be conducting a live webcast of THON from Feb. 15-17 to help those people experience the event. Advertising, PR major selected as Bellisario College student marshal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An advertising/public relations major will serve as student marshal for the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications during the University's fall commencement exercises on Dec. 15 in the Bryce Jordan Center.
Meghan Shiels, from Julian, Pennsylvania, was selected as one of 10 inaugural Bellisario College Fellows and will graduate with minors in theater and business. In her time at Penn State she has achieved success both in and outside of the classroom.

"46 Live” is the 46 hour live stream of THON. In our organization, we have hosts and crew members that work together to produce content, create graphics, and manage social media throughout THON weekend. We are supported by the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications, and having their support has made it possible for us to continue to grow and make a better webcast.

Communications intern working for a 'seat at the table'

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Meghan Shiels wants to make the best out of a company’s bad day.
While taking a first-year seminar course in crisis communications, the Penn State junior heard about CEOs and company presidents on the “worst day of their lives.” Class members learned about how vital communications is for every stakeholder involved in and affected by a crisis.
In the real-life case studies, “the CEOs were looking to the public relations people for help,” Shiels said. “It showed me that what I was interested in (writing and public relations) has a place at the table.”
